Eleven Bernama '"Otais" kept their friendship strong when they gathered for lunch at MCOBA building at Jalan Syed Putra in Kuala Lumpur today.
The building once served as the news agency's headquarters where most of them had spent part of their working life.
All are now above 66 years old.
They include former chairmen, editors-in-chief, senior editors and a former personnel manager.
Posing for a group photograph (above, from left) were Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Sulaiman, Effendi Ariffin, Datuk Jaafar Hussin, S.Sivaselvam, Zainoor Sulaiman, Abdul Karim Shukor, Datuk Ahmad Rejal Arbee, Prof Datuk Seri Dr Syed Arabi Idid, Datuk A.Kadir Jasin, Haji Zainal Hasnan Mansur and S.N.Rajan.
The news agency later moved to its own building -- Wisma Bernama at Jalan Tun Razak when it was completed in 1984 and remained as its headquarters.
Tan Sri Rahman, Effendi and Zainoor later visited retired editor Haji Jamil Abdullah at his house in Puchong.
They were joined by Bernama chairman Tan Sri Azman Ujang. Present was Encik Jamil's nephew.
"Effendi came to visit and wanted to meet old friends...so we managed to gather a few," said Zainoor.
"He returns to Kuching tomorrow. The last time Effendi saw Encik Jamil was 32 years ago," he said.
MCOBA was chosen for them to have lunch because it was a "nostalgic" place, said Zainoor.
"Anyway easy parking...just getting together to touch base.
"Youngest in the group is 69 and oldest Karim followed by Rejal," he said.
