When Otais meet..

A number of Bernama otais got together at Wisma Bernama this afternoon to catch up on old time along with former Information Minister Tan Sri Zainuddin Maidin and another old colleague Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar.
Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang said the occasion was “to celebrate Datuk A.Kadir Jasin's appointment as Special Media Adviser to the Prime Minister,   farewell to Datuk Zulkefli Salleh as Bernama CEO (Chief Executive Officer) and former editor-in-chief Datuk Ahmad Rejal Arbee's 78th birthday today."
“It's quite rare that we had this opportunity to meet up and sembang about old time experience as Bernama reporters.
“The old timers talked especially about how they enjoyed covering and getting scoops from (former Prime Minister) Tunku Abdul Rahman,” he said.
“The most senior there is Musa Scully who joined Bernama in 1968 and 50 years later, still working in Bernama!,” said Datuk Seri Azman.
Editor-in-Chief Datuk Zakaria Abdul Wahab said former Editor-in-Chief and Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Sulaiman had the opportunity to promote his home-made health tonic made from local and foreign ingredients branded as ‘ARES’.
“It’s based on kurma, madu kelukut and a special plant,” he said.
Datuk Seri Azman said one otai who was not around was former Editor-in-Chief and General Manager Datuk Syed Jamil Jaffar who is warded at the National Heart Institute (IJN).
“SJ is in IJN waiting for by-pass operation. He was admitted two days ago. It was his idea that we held the get together but he was taken ill,” he said.
“The tests just discovered he has blockages at 3 arteries,” said Datuk Seri Azman who visited Datuk Syed Jamil at IJN yesterday.
Retired executive editor Zainoor Sulaiman said Datuk Syed Jamil had asked him to organise the get-together.
“SJ says angiogram shows 3 clogged arteries. Must have by-pass surgery. Date not yet fixed,” he said.
