A high-level team from Projek Lintasan
Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas), which operates the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur
Elevated Highway (AKLEH), made its way to Bernama today for a goodwill visit.
Led by group chief executive officer, Datuk
Mohammad Azlan Abdullah, the visitors were received by General Manager Datuk
Zulkefli Salleh who briefed them about Bernama.
They later took a tour of the various
sections in Bernama.
Datuk Seri Azlan said the company was
ready to implement the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system for toll
payment at AKLEH by early next year.
He said test had been conducted on the
implementation of RFID at AKLEH on specific vehicles such as police cars.
"We are positive that by early 2018,
we can implement the RFID in AKLEH and subsequently, on five other highways
that we operate.
"This is because we fully support
the move towards implementing a total electronic payment system in easing the
traffic flow," he said.
The RFID-based system is a barcode
scanner which scans a 'tag' through electromagnetic waves with a frequency of
between 850 and 950 megahertz (MHz), and is able to reach a range of 27 metres
with a 10-millisecond response time.
Apart from AKLEH, Prolintas, which is
wholly owned by Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), operates five other highways.
They are Guthrie Corridor Expressway
(GCE), Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway (LKSA), Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway
(SILK) and the upcoming Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) and
Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH).
