Better understanding of digital journalism...

Bernama journalist Syed Iylia Hariz Al-Qadri Syed Izman will get to know more about digital journalism as he joined eight other journalists from Asean for a four-week fellowship programme in South Korea.
The other journalists are from Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Cambodia and  Vietnam who have been selected to participate in the 2018 Kwanhun-KPF Press Fellowship.
Organised annually by the Korea Press Foundation (KPF) with the Kwanhun Journalists Club since 2012,  the fellowship this year is focused on discussing and to gain better understanding on digital journalism.
The fellowship programme is reinforced with seminars and practical training that will  emphasise on digital journalism and also to gain experience on Korean culture, economy and society.
KPF chairman Byung Wook Min hoped that the fellowship programme would provide a great help for the participants in regards to the challenges faced in the digital era, and to continue strengthening the relationship between South Korea and ASEAN countries.
“This programme will help participants to gain better understanding on digital journalism and can learn the know-hows of the Korean press in detail. Participants can also find how we (South Korea) keep up with the new media environment,” he said in his welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony of the programme in Seoul today.
Kwanhun Journalists Club president Sung Hee Park said the journalism industry has seen a mixed view on the digital platform.
He said he read an article published by the Pew Research Centre, a prestigious polling organisation and consulting firm based in the United States, stating that newspaper circulation was decreasing while its profit had increased due to an increased subscription fee and digital profit.
“Even within the same media market, one tells about hope while others tell about concerns.. we know that all journalists in the world share the same concerns.
“What’s important is that with the smartphone era, more people are consuming news nowadays,”
He expects this fellowship programme would give participants inspiration so that  the press can enjoy the  turning point  (to the new media) in a wise manner.
