Palestinian envoy pays tribute to Malaysia

For someone from Gaza who has lost relatives because of Israeli’s atrocities, Palestinian ambassador to Malaysia Dr Anwar al-Agha knows too well of the crucial situation in his homeland.
“If you are far from the country you are more worried actually..you have bad feeling, sad with the situation.
“But despite all these Israeli brutalities against civilians with 1,850 shahid now, we  believe we should go on with our life.
”Life cannot just stop with this brutalities form Israel but we  believe from  the support from our brothers, we can always go on and continue life.
“We hope there will be ceasefire so people can work freely, see their houses  even can go to school.
“We hope there will be ceasefire so the humanitarian assistance like Malaysia can reach there,” he said in an interview with Bernama.
Dr Anwar, who had just started his posting here four months ago, said Palestinians were very happy to see the strong support from the Malaysian government and people especially now with the heightened Israeli aggression in Gaza.
“We are now passing through a crucial situation in Gaza…Israeli attacks, aggression,  brutality against Palestinians.. it was an unexpected situation where civilians are being killed by Israel  mostly children, women and elderly people.
“If you go to Gaza, you will see most houses are totally destroyed…even hospitals destroyed…it is unbelievable to see the centre for disabled people are also destroyed.
This is a brutal situation and a war criminal.. Israeli should be brought to court  for their attacks and brutal killings against Palestinians,” he said.
More than 7,000 houses have been destructed and 3,000 partially damaged, he added.
Dr Anwar said with its strong principle of helping Palestine and other oppressed countries, Malaysia's bid for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is deserving.
"If Malaysia were to be in the UNSC, Malaysia will help us with its good relation with other countries, so it can also urge them to assist the Palestinians," he said.
Apart from willing to provide humanitarian assistance, he said there were Malaysians who had contacted the embassy to find out if they could take the Palestinians  children to Malaysia.
"We wish all the best to Malaysia to move from one strength to a higher strength...you have a good and strong base here in Malaysia to be able to assist Palestine and other countries," he said of Malaysia's interest to vie for a UNSC non-permanent member seat for 2015-2016 term.
