A total of 1,000 boxes of food delivered by the Kelab Putera 1Malaysia (KP1M) have been successfully channelled to about 1,000 families in Gaza, Palestine on Sunday.
Its vice-president Datuk Mohd Farid Hassan said the food supply and its delivery was managed by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Gaza's coordination office, with the cost borne by KP1M.
Based on KP1M estimation, the aid could at least feed a family of five for a month, he told Malaysian reporters participating in the humanitarian mission to Gaza in Cairo.
While Sunday brought some good news for the team, the main objective of the mission to enter Gaza was still uncertain as they were awaiting approval for the entry permit.
Nonetheless Mohd Farid said positive feedback had been gathered through several meetings with the authorities here.
"We have good cooperation with our embassy here since Aug 7, and we have several times met with the officers from the embassy since day one.
"This morning, we also met with the Malaysian ambassador (to Egypt) and thus, we hope for good news soon," he said.
Mohd Farid said the KP1M secretariat in Cairo had scheduled a courtesy call from the foreign ministry on Monday to further finalise the entry permit.
A meeting with the Palestine Red Crescent director was also in place for a discussion on logistics.
"For what has been planned so far, the transportation and delivery of the KP1M aid for the people of Gaza brought from Malaysia and Egypt will be assisted by the Palestine and Egypt Red Crescent. We have also prepared lorries for that purpose," said Mohd Farid.
The humanitarian mission plans to deliver 40 metric tonnes of food and medical supplies to ease the burden of some 20,000 people of the war-torn country.
The first team of eight and a second group comprising 20 out of a total 65 participants of the humanitarian mission to Gaza arrived in the Egyptian capital on Thursday and Sunday, respectively.
The entire group is expected to leave for Gaza through the Rafah border on Wednesday.
The humanitarian aid is meant to alleviate the sufferings of Palestinians in Gaza, a blockaded enclave which has been under aggressive Israeli military offensive, leaving over 2,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, killed and several hundreds injured.
