The second group of Kelab Putera 1Malaysia (KP1M) humanitarian mission to Gaza bringing along food and medical supply landed safely at the Cairo Airport today.
Bernama journalist Nik Nurfaqih Nik Wil and photographer Zid Omar are travelling with the group comprising 11 media personnel, eight volunteers and a doctor.
They arrived at the airport from the Kuala Lumpur around 6am local time (11am Malaysia time), bringing seven metric tonnes of food and medical supply.
KP1M vice president, Datuk Mohd Farid Hassan who arrived in Cairo earlier with the first group said the supply would be stored at the Malaysian Hall in Abbasiah, located about an hour's journey from the Cairo Airport.
"We will try to get clearance from the airport cargo, and see if we can move all the supply from the terminal to Abbasiah today, together with the three metric tonnes of supply we brought earlier with the first group," he told reporters in Cairo.
The first group of eight people arrived in Cairo last Thursday, while the rest of total 65 participants of the humanitarian mission led by its president Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim are expected to depart KLIA on Tuesday.
Mohd Farid said both management groups of KP1M in Malaysia and Cairo were still in the midst of working out their best to finalise the permit to enter Gaza.
The group plans to enter Gaza along with 40 metric tonnes of food and medical supply through the Rafah border this Wednesday.
The humanitarian aid is meant to alleviate the sufferings of Palestinians in Gaza, a blockaded enclave which had been under aggressive Israeli military offensive. Over 2,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, have been reported killed in the onslought.
