Happy birthday Faridah ...

Congratulatory WhatsApp messages greeted International Desk Editor, Nor Faridah Abdul Rashid all day long as she celebrated her birthday today, recalling the year she joined Bernama in 1979.
Of the many well wishes she received, a notable message came from none other than the General Manager Datuk Zulkefli Salleh himself.
"Happy birthday Faridah (same batch - 1979)," he wrote.
To this, Faridah replied: "Thank u Datuk Zul...Sept 17, 1979..."
The date caught the eyes of Multimedia Desk Head Hafizah Kamaruddin who remarked:
"Wow 17091979...nombor cantik".
"Ya...d number nampak cantik Fizah," said Faridah who remained loyal to Bernama after almost 38 years coming from the "MCOBA days".
She once told Bernama Radio talk programme "Bersama Wartawan"  that her deep interest for journalism had made her quit her studies at Institut Teknologi MARA (ITM) to pursue her ambition.
She had come across a newspaper advertisement for Bernama cadet journalists, prompting her to apply for it.
She sat for a written test and was selected for the job interview.
When she received the offer letter, Faridah made the bold move to give up her Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) studies to take the first step towards her long illustrious career in Bernama.
Born and bred in Kuala Lumpur, Faridah had often passed by the old Bernama office on her way to school, nurturing her interest along the way.
“I've always said that after five years in Bernama, we would have decided to remain or go elsewhere...after 10 years, we would already feel comfortable to stay," she said.
Faridah said she did not talk much when she joined Bernama at the time when typewriters made the most noise in the newsroom.
“I have to thank Bernama because in those early stage, we were encouraged to attend functions that made us to mix around and introduced ourselves...the editor would later ask us for the calling cards of the people we met,' she said.
Faridah was assigned to court reporting when she joined Bernama, a task which would later be her beat for 15 years.
Court reporting became her forte having covered the lower courts up to the federal courts and even the International Court of Justice at the Hague.
Another high point in her career was when she served as Bernama correspondent in Dubai, a useful experience for her current responsibilities as the editor of the International Desk.
