There
was still something to cheer about from the successfully-held BERNAMA National GST Conference when the nation’s
two major English dailies carried news
items on it in their Saturday edition today.
The
New Straits Times printed the full text of Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad
Husni Hanadzlah’s speech which he delivered when opening the two-day conference
on Thursday.
The
Star, on the other hand, published a photograph of the minister meeting
participants after opening the conference.
Both
items appeared in the Business section of the newspapers.
Media
and Database Service Division Senior Manager Rita Gomez had some positive
feedback to share.
“It
was a very enlightening conference. That’s the feedback I got while chatting
with some of the participants. Some things are still not clear yet but GST
implementation in the various sectors will take time to sink in,” she said.
General
Manager Datuk Yong Soo Heong said the continued lack of clarity gave Bernama
the opportunity to ‘muscle in’ with the strong support of the Director-General
of Royal Malaysian Customs Datuk Sri Khazali Haji Ahmad.
“The
feeling is always great when something good is done. Feeling on top of the
world after success of BERNAMA’S NATIONAL GST CONFERENCE,” he tweeted.
“Feeling
great as BERNAMA was able to bring top Customs Dept directors to explain GST in
simple language that is easily understood,” he added.
“As
far as we are concerned, what we are doing can go on,” he said later on Bernama
Eds WhatsApp.
He
disclosed that Bernama had been told to talk to a media conglomerate, which had somewhat been “entrusted” to
promote GST, next Friday.
