Glasgow Games pay homage to MH17...

The 20th Commonwealth Games got off to a spectacular opening at the Celtic Stadium in Glasgow with tribute to victims of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 tragedy.
The Malaysian contingent wore black armbands with some dressed in Malaysia Airlines cabin crew uniforms as they march-past before about 40,000 spectators.
Bernama sports chief Farhanah Azmi reported that Queen Elizabeth II, in her opening speech, called on those present to "unite" in difficult times as a minute of silence was observed for the airplane crash victims.
The flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, with 298 people on board , came down in  eastern Ukraine on Thursday. Eighty-two of the victims were from Commonwealth nations.
Malaysia lost 43 people including 15 crew members.
Cyclist Fatehah Mustafa led the Malaysian contingent, carrying the Jalur Gemilang which was raised at half-mast.
Athletes -- Ju Pha Som Net (cycling), Surizan Awang Noh and Fatin Syafiqah Mohd Sukri (women hockey), Nur Fidrah Noh and Fairoz Abd Jabal (lawn bowls) and Farizal Ismail (rugby) -- and two officials, rugby team manager Mohamad Fahmy Abdul Jalil and Malaysia's media attache, Fahmi Omar were clad in MAS cabin crew uniform.
The other members of the contingent wore the new "Malaysian Hero" 'baju kurung' and scarf for women athletes and 'Baju Melayu' with 'sampin' for men athletes fashioned by noted Malaysian designer, Melinda Looi.
The Malaysian contingent comprised 269 athletes and officials.
Of the total of 179 athletes, 135 were elite athletes, five back-up athletes, 30 non-National Sports Council programme athletes and nine Paralympic athletes.
The 11-day Games will feature 17 sports with more than 6,000 athletes from 71 nations competing, making the event the biggest Scotland has ever hosted.
This is third time for Scotland to play host after the Games in 1970 and 1986 in Edinburgh.
