Saudara Minggu Simon Lhasa marked his first year as
Bernama correspondent in Bangkok, feeling lighter and excited having gone
through ‘explosive’ moments.
“Yes.. My tour of duty in Thailand now is one year
old .. It is the Iongest time I am out of Malaysia and I also created a
personal record of no haircut for more than a year,” he said on Facebook.
“…considering that when I arrive in Thailand
bald...it is long enough.. now cover the neck,” he replied when someone asked
him about his hair.
“I am also at my lightest weight in more than two
years,, and during the time I have tear gas, bomb, shootings .. wow what a
life, thanks bosses for sending me here... heeee,” he said.
“This Ramadhan is the first time I am not asked to
tapau or refused service at the food outlets,” said the Sibu-born bachelor, who
had been taking in more fruits over the past month.
“.. dalam sebulan lebih ini saya dah belanja lebih
RM1k untuk durian, rambutan, mangga, manggis etc.”
While Minggu rejoiced the first anniversary of his
overseas posting, three ‘feel good’ Bernama-related stories appeared in the
major newspapers today.
“Lovely story on Kg Parit Jerman by BERNAMA on Pg3
The Star today. Tahniah!”, General Manager Datuk Yong Soo Heong remarked on
Bernama Eds WhatsApp.
It was about the kampung near Pontian in Johor
drawing attention because of its name-sake Germany fine showing in the
just-ended FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
A special feast has been planned in the early part of
Hari Raya by the villagers to celebrate Germany’s World Cup victory.
Another news item that made us proud appeared on page
4 of New Straits Times “Streets” section with the bold heading “Bank Islam,
Bernama give back”.
It highlighted our joint corporate social
responsibility effort with Bank Islam for the fishing community, also in
Pontian, during the recent Bank Islam-Bernama treasure hunt.
On page 8 of NST Streets, a photo of Bernama’s
“evergreen ex-staff Zain Che Mat” caught the attention of Human Resources and
Administration Department Senior Manager , saudara S.Visvakumar.
It was taken at a “buka puasa” get-together of
members of the Ex-Malaysian British Army.
“Reason he speaks impeccable English,” recalled
saudara Govind Nair of the former supervisor of the once-crucial teleprinter unit.
