Being at the centre of Asia...

Not everyone can say they have been to the centre of Asia.
Such is the credit that Bernama News Channel (BNC) Chief Assignment Editor Abdul Rahman Ahmad can declare after setting foot at the location near Urumqi in China.
“Speechless…feel great on top of Asia,” he replied on WhatsApp when asked how he felt to be there.
He said the place was about 40km from Urumqi in Xinjiang Province where Rahman and seven other members of the Kembara Inspirasi Haji (KIH) were stopping over in their journey by road to the Holy Land.
They travelled in their two four-wheel drive to the “geographical centre of Asia continent" where a monument is erected to mark the location.
Rahman made the historic hour-long trip meaningful when he proudly unfolded the Bernama flag at the grandiose monument.
The “Heart of Asia" monument is a tower of 18 meters on four steel supports, which are oriented to all corners.
From every side, it represents the letter A, signifying the first letter in the word Asia.
The stylized globe is on the top of the tower, the pendulum in the shape of heart hangs from the centre, pointing to the geographic spot.
The “Heart of Asia” was mathematically calculated by Xinjiang branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences and got an official confirmation in 1992.
The team had arrived in Urumqi passed midnight Wednesday and was on the way to Aksu, about 530 km away today.
