Egypt keen on reviving news cooperation with Bernama...

By Nabilah Saleh

Egypt’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Gamel Abdelrahim Mohamed Metwally is keen to strengthen ties between the two countries through renewed media collaboration and news exchanges with the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).
In this context, he said the partnership between the Middle East News Agency (MENA) and Bernama could further provide the two news agencies with greater outreach in news coverage after a new memorandum of understanding on the matter was finalised soon.
“News exchanges from both nations would be a good follow-up to what is happening in the two countries, what more with the exchange of photographs and videos.
“Many changes are happening in the world now; thus, I think it is high time to renew our cooperation and agreement, just to match with the developments currently taking place in this new era. We are so keen to promote relations between MENA and Bernama,” he said.
Mohamed Metwally, 51, said this in an interview with Bernama after a courtesy call to Bernama chief executive officer Datuk Zulkefli Salleh at the news agency’s headquarters in Wisma Bernama today.
A news exchange agreement between Bernama and MENA was signed in Cairo in April 2002.
Both news agencies are motivated by the spirit of cooperation and the desire to promote each other’s interest, according to the previous agreement.
Bernama’s deputy editor-in-chief (International News Service) Ahmad Zukiman Mohd Zain was also present at the meeting.
