The
news agency will be represented by Editor-in-Chief Datuk Zakaria Abdul Wahab
and Managing Editor Mohamad Nasir Yusof at the meeting hosted by the Islamic
Republic News Agency (IRNA) on September 3.
Currently
chaired by Azerbaijan News Agency (AzerTaC), the other board members include Turkish
News Agency (ANADOLU), Bahrain News Agency (BNA), Japanese News Agency (KYODO),
Mehr News Agency (MNA) of Iran, Mongolia News Agency (MONTSAME), Lebanon's
National News Agency (NNA), Russian News Agency (TASS), South Korean News
Agency (YONHAP) and China's News Agency (XINHUA).
OANA
was formed in 1961 with the backing of UNESCO and consists of 44 news agencies
from 35 countries.
A
report on its website today stated that the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA)
will also take part in the OANA meeting with a delegation led by its director Shafiq
al-Obeidi.
The
meeting was expected to discuss the role of news agencies, their active contribution
to economic development and the advanced techniques used to cover events and
convey them to the people in advanced professional formats.
The
participants will also discuss the coordination and consolidation of the
positions of the organization in facing the challenges faced by the media.
