Bernama-IRNA to enhance cooperation...

Bernama and Iran's Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) have agreed to enhance their cooperation in keeping with the changing media landscape and technology.
Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang held a discussion on the matter with IRNA Managing Director Mohammad Khodadi during a visit to the Iranian news agency in Tehran today.
They later signed a Memorandum of Understanding (Mou) to renew cooperation between the two agencies.
Azman had arrived in Tehran earlier today for a five-day trip at the invitation of Khodadi.
"With the changing media landscape especially with social media influence, news agencies need to revisit their traditional ways of operation," said Azman after the signing of the MoU.
"Both IRNA and Bernama are doing this...both sides stressed the importance of upgrading skills of journalists in keeping with media technology advancement and increasingly discerning audience and readers.
"No longer business as usual," he said.
"For us we have Twitter news and infographics. IRNA, too has the same."
Khodadi, a veteran journalist, stressed the importance for media practitioners to opt for "value-added" journalism.
He said the 'he said, she said' style of news writing no longer had much news value as it means expressing opinions.
"Go for news value and value-added journalism both pictures and videos," he said.
Azman was also scheduled to meet Iranian high-ranking officials, visit School of Media Studies and Iran Press Institute which publishes various newspapers in different languages.
