A special CNY for Chiang...

The Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration  this year will be special for Mandarin Desk head Chiang Hee Tze.
"I was not with my family previous years due to work but this year I will be back to mom's home on “Chor Yat” (the first day of CNY).
Born in Jinjang Utara, Kuala Lumpur, Chiang said CNY symbolises family reunion.
"No matter whether you are a local born or person living away from hometown, the whole family getting together would be the most important and meaningful part," he said.
He hoped the year of Fire Rooster would be a year filled with endless fun and laughter.
"As time goes by "family values" suddenly become the name of the game in this season. The time to be spent with our family is counting down, like an ancient Chinese proverb says: "The tree wants to be still — but the wind is blowing, the son wants to show his respect —but his parents have gone".
Chiang joined Bernama in June 2009 after working with Nanyang Siang Pau, a local Chinese daily since December 2003.
"From the traditional printed media to national news agency, my philosophy is simple, work smart and enjoy your work.

"BERNAMA gave me a brand new vision (on working environment, culture and job scope) that printed media does not have," he said of the reason to join Bernama.
He said: "I treasure what I have now. I don't have great goal to achieve to, work and life just simple, play my part and do what I am suppose to do."
The Mandarin Desk started operations in June 2004, which Chiang said aimed at "helping the government disseminate its information and policies to readers of Mandarin in and outside the country."
He leads a team of six and wary of the challenges they faced.
"The media industry is in the digital fight thus struggling with the mobile strategies. As a Mandarin news provider in the nation, we need to maintain the availability and competitiveness.

But we are facing the issue about the lack of new or young blood with the average age of reporters at 36.5 years old," he said.
On what he hoped to achieve for himself and the Desk this year, Chiang said: "Motivation, motivation and motivation. Carry on to meet the KPIs and enjoy the work."
