Those receiving cyber threats can now lodge a report directly through their smartphone, via a new application called Cyber999 App.
Introduced and developed by CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM), the application is available free for IOS and Android operating system.
CSM chief executive officer Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab said the application was the latest method of keeping in touch with the CSM help centre team, and probably, the fastest way to get emergency assistance.
"Upon receiving the reports, the team will contact the users and assist them to resolve the problem," he told Bernama after launching the application at Wisma Bernama today.
Also present were Bernama Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Domestic News Service) Datuk Zakaria Abd Wahab, Bernama Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Foreign/International News Service) Ahmad Zukiman Zain and Deputy Editor-in-Chief (Audio Visual Service) Mokhtar Hussin.
Amirudin said the Cyber999 App, apart from being free, easy to use and suitable for smart phone users, also contained advisories and tips on internet safety.
Earlier, he briefed Bernama staff on the cyber security situation in Malaysia, which among others, was the increasing number of security threats reported by the public.
"Among the incidents commonly reported are online purchase fraud, phishing, scams, malware and virus infection, spams, system intrusion, cyber harassment, defamatory, seditious and inappropriate content," he said.

To avoid becoming a victim, he advised the public to be cautious of the information they provide about themselves on social media.
“Sharing is caring but oversharing is careless!
“If you have a problem, face it, don’t Facebook,” he said.
Apart from the new introduced medium, Amirudin said, the public could also report any cyber threat-related incidents and request for assistance via email, fax, short messaging service, phone call or just walk-in to any CSM office.
CSM is the national cyber security specialist agency under the science, technology and innovation ministry.
