Bernama
has been invited to attend the first D-8 News Agencies Forum to be held in
Tehran on November 12 and 13.
The
meeting to be hosted by Iran News Agency (IRNA) will explore ways of
establishing news and media cooperation and possibly set a framework for
cooperation in the field.
The
D-8 or Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation currently
consists of eight Islamic developing countries – Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia,
Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey.
The
forum will review the current status of bilateral and multilateral cooperation
between news agencies of D-8 member states.
It
will consider options for multilateral cooperation in areas such as:
- Media training in news and journalism;
- Designing of a joint D-8 journal;
- Production and dissemination of news and reports, periodicals and documentaries;
- Covering D-8 events in a joint context
According
to the provisional agenda, the meeting will also discuss the possibility of
establishing a joint D-8 news agency or joint desks in national news agencies
of member states.
The
move is aimed at introducing capacities and capabilities of D-8 member
countries and showcase the organisation’s achievements in priority areas.
It would also highlight culture, literature, art, history
and tourism attractions of member states.

Secretary-General Dr Seyed Ali Mohammad Mousavi, had during his visit to Wisma
Bernama on Sept 4, said contacts with media and news agencies was a new
initiative for the organization.
He
hoped that with the cooperation of the D-8 countries' news agencies and
television stations, the group would be more visible among member states as
well as worldwide.
