Singapore’s new High
Commissioner to Malaysia, Vanu Gopala Menon made a visit to Wisma Bernama today
where he met Bernama chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Sulaiman.
The 54 year-old Menon
succeeded Ong Keng Yong effective Nov 10.
Speaking to Bernama after
the meeting, he said Singapore and Malaysia can work closely in tackling issues
such as terrorism in the region.
"There are many
challenges that affect the region which can also affect both countries, for
example the fight against terrorism,” he said.
"I think the security
agencies from both countries are working closely to tackle this common problem
as well as many other issues that we can work together to take the relationship
forward.
Menon, who succeded Ong Keng
Yong, said there were also many projects that both countries were working
closely including the high speed rail project.
"I'm coming to Malaysia
at a good time where the bilateral relations between both countries are very
solid and I hope to build this relationship to a higher and better level,"
he said.
Menon said both countries
have similar things in common like the culture and food.
"It feels like home in
many ways being here in Malaysia," said Menon, who once served as the
republic’s deputy high commissioner to Malaysia from 1994 to 1997.
He is married to Jayanthi
Menon and they have a son.
