Singapore’s new High Commissioner to Malaysia, Vanu Gopala Menon made a visit to Wisma Bernama today where he met Bernama chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Sulaiman.
The 54 year-old Menon succeeded Ong Keng Yong effective Nov 10.
Speaking to Bernama after the meeting, he said Singapore and Malaysia can work closely in tackling issues such as terrorism in the region.
"There are many challenges that affect the region which can also affect both countries, for example the fight against terrorism,” he said.
"I think the security agencies from both countries are working closely to tackle this common problem as well as many other issues that we can work together to take the relationship forward.
Menon, who succeded Ong Keng Yong, said there were also many projects that both countries were working closely including the high speed rail project.
"I'm coming to Malaysia at a good time where the bilateral relations between both countries are very solid and I hope to build this relationship to a higher and better level," he said.
Menon said both countries have similar things in common like the culture and food.
"It feels like home in many ways being here in Malaysia," said Menon, who once served as the republic’s deputy high commissioner to Malaysia from 1994 to 1997.
