North Korean ambassador visits Bernama

North Korean ambassador Kang Chol made a courtesy call to Wisma Bernama this morning.

He met Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang and Bernama General Manager Datuk Zulkefli Salleh.

The embassy's Third Secretary Kim Hyon U was present. 

New-look Bernama Images...

Bernama Images, the web page of the Photo Marketing Unit, has a new dynamic look from new year’s day.

Unit Manager Farhan Mustafa disclosed about the new look at Bernama Interdepartmental Coordination Weekly Meeting this morning – the first of the year.

“It’s a responsive page which can be viewed on any platform.

“Example on the phone…no need to zoom in and out,” he said.

“Before we can only view it on PC and iMac but now on any platforms like mobile phones, Ipad, tablet,” said an excited Farhan.

The coding is also trendy using HTML5 compared to HTML3 before.

“We have to be updated, follow the new trend as technology is changing very fast,” said Farhan, who started working with his team on the new look June last year.

“With the new look and style, we hope our client won’t see us like an ordinary website,” he said.

With more than two million photographs from 1980 in its achives, Farhan said the new look was more presentable to attract  international clients

Malam Media Perak 2016...

Majlis Malam Media 2016 berlangsung dalam suasana meriah di Ipoh malam ini dengan menghimpunkan lebih 150 pengamal media di negeri itu.

Majlis anjuran Persatuan Pengamal Media Negeri Perak itu diserikan dengan kehadiran Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir dan isteri Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli.

Menteri Besar dalam ucapannya menghargai sumbangan media yang sentiasa memberi kerjasama baik terhadap kerajaan negeri.

Katanya kerajaan negeri mengambil pendekatan memberi kerjasama kepada media dalam apa jua keadaan termasuk memberi respon sebaik mungkin walaupun melibatkan isu-isu negatif yang dilaporkan media.

“Kita tidak menghalang atau menyekat mana-mana media membuat liputan di negeri ini walaupun mereka membuat laporan yang berunsur negatif terhadap kerajaan negeri. Tak pernah terjadi kita halang sesiapa daripada membuat liputan sidang media.

“Inilah demokrasi yang kita amalkan di negeri ini. Paling penting adalah kita mempunyai kerjasama yang baik dengan pengamal media,” katanya ketika berucap merasmikan majlis makan malam media di Hotel Casuarina@Meru Ipoh.

Turut memeriahkan majlis adalah dengan kehadiran Ketua Pengarang Kumpulan Utusan Melayu, Datuk Aziz Ishak; Pengarang KOSMO, Datuk Baharom Mahusin; Ketua Pengarang Pertubuhan Berita Nasional (BERNAMA), Datuk Zakaria Abd Wahab; Pengarang Eksekutif Berita/Rencana/Digital BH, Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman; Timbalan Pengarang Kumpulan The New Straits Times (NST), Yushaimi Yahya; Pengarang Sunday Star, Esther Ng dan Penolong Pengarang Berita Sinar Harian, Najwa Ghazali.

Turut hadir Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri, Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan, Pegawai Kewangan Negeri Datuk Ghazali Jalal, barisan Exco, dan Pengerusi PPMP, Sayed Hesham Syed Idris

Pada majlis itu, hampir kesemua media pulang dengan 60 pelbagai hadiah barangan eletrik yang dimenangi melalui cabutan bertuah.

Antara hadiah utama adalah IPhone 7, komputer riba Microsoft surface, televisyen 40’in, peti sejuk, mini bar, mesin basuh, ketuhar, set home theatre, pengisar makanan, kipas angin, dapur masak, basikal, tiket penerbangan ke Bangkok dan Jakarta dan tiket dan penginapan bernilai RM1,000 daripada Lost World of Tambun.

Majlis tersebut bertambah istimewa dengan anugerah istimewa iaitu ‘Wartawan Otai’ yang diberikan khusus kepada pengamal media berpengalaman yang sehingga kini tidak jemu melaksanakan tugas masing-masing.

Pada majlis itu, Menteri Besar turut melakukan gimik pelancaran Tahun Melawat Perak 2017.

Persembahan daripada Kumpulan Selendang Perak, dan Kombo MBI turut memeriahkan suasana di samping persembahan nyanyian dari pengamal media sendiri.

As the year comes to an end, a history-of-sort was created at Wisma Bernama today.
Retired colleague Haji Openg Onn Net and wife Sabariah Jaini hosted a wedding reception for their daughter Noor Monerah and hubby Muhammad Nazri on the 10th floor.
It was the first such event to be held by the public at the place which has over the past six years been utilised for office functions.
Bernama Chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang graced the occasion with the song 'Ilham Pujangga' -- the first time he was rendering the patriotic number in public.
Long before the 10th floor took its role as the "function place", staff had organised a wedding reception for Bernama colleagues Muhammad Adam Jayabalan and Engku Zafirah Engku Ab Rahim on the 13th floor in December 2010.
It was among the vacant floors available then of the 16-storey Wisma Bernama.  
The 13th floor has since been renovated to occupy the Human Resource Department. 

Sudan's Tilapia From The Nile River, A Tourist Attraction

KHARTOUM: Malaysians may not know that the Nile river in Sudan, yes Sudan and not Egypt, has an abundance of tilapia, a favourite fish of the Sudanese people.
The world's longest river is the source of this popular fish, which has a group of Bernama journalists on a visit to Sudan, hosted by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA), practically savouring the tilapia non-stop, when served with the crunchy fried fish, dipped in Sudan's exquisite sambal.
What is so special about this fish? For Sudanese, Ahmed Abdulagi, 48, the Nile's tilapia is tasty and its flesh softer than any other tilapia fish.
"Sudanese cook tilapia as curry, fried and dried. And it is also best to serve with sambal, which is made from chili, lemon, salt and peanut butter," he told Bernama.
Ahmed said that tilapia is consumed fresh as fishermen caught the fish along the Nile river every day, using either the traditional methods such as fishing nets, or the modern ones such as boats.
However, the tasty tilapia is still only for local consumption and yet to be exported to other countries, he said.
Mustafa Makky, owner of a restaurant - 'Samakuna Restaurant' (Our Fish) - here, said that the Nile's tilapia has become "a tourist attraction," especially in Khartoum.
He buys 200 kg of tilapia daily from middlemen for his restaurant.
"The tilapia is available from the White Nile and Blue Nile. Because the demand for tilapia is increasing, the price is also rising," he said.
For example, he said that previously the price was only seven Sudanese Pounds (RM4.8) per kg but now it can go as high as 30 SDG (RM20.7).

And as for the six-member Bernama team, led by the national news agency's Deputy-Editor-in -Chief (Domestic News), Datuk Mokhtar Hussain, the tilapia was simply the best they had ever tasted and has vast potential for export.
Khartoum, the capital and second largest city of Sudan, is located at the confluence of the White Nile, flowing north from Lake Victoria, and the Blue Nile, flowing west from Ethiopia.
The location where the two Niles meet is known as "al-Mogran", meaning the confluence. The main Nile continues to flow north towards Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea.
Lake Victoria is a huge lake located in east central Africa along the equator and borders the countries of Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
