Bernama, AzerTAc Sign Pact On News Exchange...

Bernama and AzerTAc, the national news agencies of Malaysia and Azerbaijan, today signed an agreement on co-operation to provide for news exchange.
The agreement was signed by Bernama general manager Datuk Yong Soo Heong and AzerTAc director-general Aslan Aslanov in Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, an Islamic republic in the Caucasus region.
Yong, when contacted by Bernama Radio24, said the agreement would enable the two agencies to exchange news in the form of text, photographs and audio-visual material.
He hoped that this would lead to a better understanding between the peoples of Malaysia and Azerbaijan.
"This agreement will mean that they will be able to get more news directly from each other," he said.
He also said that Bernama and AzerTAc would consider the possibility of exchange of journalists on attachment.
"There is much for us to learn from Azerbaijan, a country rich in oil and gas that is now using the wealth to develop its human capital," he said.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak visited Azerbaijan last month to strengthen bilateral relations and pave the way for Malaysian investors to venture into the market there.
Yong is in the Azerbaijan capital city to attend the Baku Humanitarian Forum and speak on "Journalism in the Intercultural Context".
The international forum is attended by political leaders, Nobel laureates, leading journalists and academics.
