The Bernama website www.bernama.com has been enriched
with the addition of Spanish since
Wednesday July 17.
Given a fresh look in February, the portal had been
carrying news in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin and Arabic.
The new
look emphasised on easy, fast and accurate access to the latest news besides
improved content.
New features included the ‘Breaking News’
which would flash headlines for the latest news while the events were still
developing and the ‘Perspective on Current Issues’ which would provide insights
and analysis on current issues affecting the country.
The facelift has a two-page ‘Special Coverage’ section
focusing on current events taking shape in the country’s political arena which
will be updated twice a week.
Another new element is ‘Newsbriefs’ which feature 15 snippets of selected stories of the day
posted daily at 7pm. It is updated at 10pm in the event of any breaking news
occurring.
It was the seventh time that Bernama.com news
portal had undergone a facelift in its effort to remain competitive in keeping
with the demand and expectation of the times.
‘Lifestyles and Newsmakers’ segment was
incorporated as an entertainment segment to provide news or events involving
well known personalities.
Since it started in July 1998, the website has been a
strategic platform for Bernama to publish its news and photographs.
The number of visitors has been on the rise and from all
over the world.
From a monthly hit of 8 million in the year 2000,
it went up to 12 million hits a month in 2003 and reached 30 million a month in 2006.
Last year, the portal recorded an average 70 million hits
per month.
