To make BERNAMA a “must have” service in the media industry,
we should focus on the basics –
accuracy and speed. And of course, regain our nose for news.
This is even crucial now that we have radio and television in
our stable apart from news wires.
Having retreated to Putrajaya to take stock of things, it is
time for editors and their assistants to put into place ideas that would propel
BERNAMA forward.
“…they need to be more stern with their staff,” says a
senior editor.
To illustrate the basics of delivering fast and accurately,
a two-minute Youtube footage of McDonald’s drive-through service was shown
during the course of the brainstorming session.
A young guy with two female friends in the back seat had
drove up to the McD's kiosk and placed his order in style by singing. Before
driving on, he made a point to asked the McD attendant if she had got the order
right.
He was visibly impressed that not only the “complicated” order taken correctly, it was delivered fast. This prompted him to remarked: "This is quality service...
quality, quality, quality" to the cheers of his teenage passengers.
During the same session, General Manager Datuk Yong Soo
Heong’s What'sApp message sent a day
earlier was also projected in the power-point presentation:
“BTV dan RADIO24
mesti cuba buat siaran langsung utk memaparkan kebolehan mengamalkan semangat
immediacy dalam liputan. And the same goes for news wires in terms of rolling
out the news. No sending news at 3pm when Shabery Cheek opens function at 10am.
Kalau kita masih lewat, we must know why and how to overcome weakness and
accelerate the production rate.”
